TCHS is inviting you to a one day trip visiting two interesting sites and viewing the film “ Rocky Mountain Express” at the Omni Theater. We will begin the day with an 11:00 a.m. visit and tour of the Capitol which was restored and repaired in the last three years and will get an overview of its history, art, architecture and state government. The decorative art, murals and paintings have been restored to the original 1905 patterns and colors. The next stop is at the MN History Center where you’ll have the opportunity to have lunch on your own and then visit the many displays including but not limited to AMVETS Post #5 (Mexican and Mexican American Vets), 1968 Exhibit, and Minnesota’s Greatest Generation with availability of classic film clips in a 1930s-style movie theater. Or stop by the Gale Family Library to do some research on persons or places. At 4:00 o’clock we will board the bus for Omni to enjoy “Rocky Mountain Express”, a film which takes us through rugged, untamed wilderness, in which a courageous crew took on a seemingly impossible task: building a railway that would connect remote towns across the Canadian continent. We’ll feel like we’re on board an early 20th century steam engine and explore one of the greatest engineering feats in modern history.
The cost of the trip is $80 per person and includes bus transportation, cost of the tours and movie. In case of inclement weather, an alternate date of Wednesday, February 28 is set. We plan to eat on the way home.
